It is not a simple task to ensure the safety of an A-SMGCS. The challenge is to provide documented proof that the combination of an A-SMGCS, a specific airport and specific procedures meets the required safety levels. At HITT, we have extensive experience in preparing safety cases together with our customers to enable smooth certification.
Despite ongoing efforts of the European Committee and the FAA to standardise rules and regulations, the standardisation is still work in progress. There are also important differences between legal requirements in individual states.
Hit the ground running
In order to rapidly deploy our A3000 A-SMGCS, we developed a standard safety case that provides a solid foundation for site specific safety cases. Every safety statement is verified and fully traceable. The presentation of safety case is in accordance with the applicable Eurocontrol standards ESARR4 (Risk Assessment and Mitigation in ATM) and ESARR6 (Software in ATM Systems). For risk assessment we use Eurocontrol SAM (Safety Assessment Method), and for software safety we apply IEC 61508.
Stay up to speed
The point of a safety case is to document the declared safety level. In general this will generate a large amount of paperwork. At HITT, we emphasize efficiency and maintainability of the documentation. Every word counts and not a word too many. A safety case is a living document that must be updated with each change in function, design or system context. We make sure that the safety case will not slow you down unnecessarily.
Benefit from other end-users
Our A-SMGCS is a standard product which we have deployed many times before. We collect safety related information in a knowledgebase. We use this knowledge to support new and existing safety cases. So in time, you can be confident that your safety case will continue to grow even more solid.
EU legal requirements
As of January 1, 2009, EU legislation (pdf) requires all new systems to comply with ESARR6. Starting July 2010, this also applies to modifications to existing systems. HITT is fully ready to meet these requirements.
